Welcome to IcyHotPatch's WoW Classic interface guide!

Hello fellow adventure seekers. My name is IcyHotPatch, but my friends call me Alex. I wanted to make a guide tailored specifically to making your interface as convenient and user friendly as possible in World of Warcraft Classic. This main post will have quick links to specific guides for every type of player out there, with one that includes my interface - which is for all intents and purposes a total replacement for the blizzard interface. I hope you enjoy!

PSA: Let's get the obvious out of the way up front. ElvUI is a one stop shop that includes much of the customization I will include in my guides. Specifically it replaces everything you can see on your default WoW screen from the styling of the map and unit frames, to the location of menus and castbars. I think Elv is a fantastic option, and one that you will see most raiders and streamers use. For some of us however, we like a little more specific customization, and a little more variety. For some others, we prefer a more trimmed down approach installing only needed changes to the default interface and leaving most of it in tact. My goal is to cover all of those individuals with these guides. If you are already an ElvUI user, the moderate addons guide below is a great resource for supplemental Addons to go with your Elv.

ElvUi in my opinion is STRICTLY better than the default interface, even if you had let's call it 5 addons to supplement Blizzard's UI. It does make a performance demand on your gaming rig, so keep that in mind. My full replacement UI guide will probably have much more demand on your system than ElvUI, due to the sheer number of addons that I run. Keep all of this in mind.

With that out of the way the first section is going to be addons that are classic specific. These are mainly a quality of life thing, but they have a huge impact on combat and what data you can visually collect. Some of these will also be included in "Mandatory Raid" addons.

CLASSIC SPECIFIC ADDONS

So the next guide is what I would call the minimalist approach. This is the MANDATORY addons for raiding, without significantly changing anything about the original game's look, feel, or style. They are mandatory for raiding because it will be information your Raid Lead expects you to have and be aware of.

IcyHot's Minimalist Guide

This next guide would be the addons that require the least amount of setup time and modification, but offer the most value and convenience. These are plug and play, and really if you need to change any settings at all, it will be fairly obvious what those are. These are a great supplement to ElvUI or the default Blizzard interface.

IcyHot's Essential Addons List

And finally we come to it, the great list of all time. This is the complete list of addons I use personally. There are close to 40. I will include a reason behind each one, and what the main value and purpose it is in my gameplay. To set up something similar to what I have is probably a 2 hour project for a novice. I have 15 years experience playing the game, and have used most of these addons for years. That said, for each one I will try to give you just a couple noteworthy settings to be aware of so that you can get the obvious stuff out of the way. Some of it is pure personal preference. Keep in mind the screen shot below has my ZPERL menu up so you can see the placement of my raidframes.

IcyHot's Moderate Approach

Whether you are an ElvUI user or someone who would prefer the Blizzard default elements for the bulk of your interface this is the guide for you. I will just list addons that supplement, rather than replace the default UI, or ElvUI.

This could be considered an "Essentials" list of useful addons every player can use.

REAL MOB HEALTH - Cannot skip this one. This keeps a database of every mob you see and tracks it's health based on the numbers it took for you to kill it in combat logs. It sometimes take's 1 or 2 tries to get a read, but then it stores it for future use. ZPerl actually picks this up and floods the data into it's frames, so it will help you greatly.

DEADLY BOSS MODS - This is a must for raids. No setup needed. It will tell you when your being a dumb-ass, and if you are a dumb-ass all the time (me) it will tell you generally what to do in the fight. This is because dumb-asses didn't read about the boss first.

DECURSIVE - IGNORED FOR ROGUES, WARRIORS, WARLOCKS, and HUNTERS. This gives you a fully customizable section of mini unit frames. These are in addition to your existing raid frames - they just show up as tiny squares. These squares allow you to remove bad shit on your friends with one click. VERY VERY NICE.

BAGNON - Probably one of the most important. Combines all your bags into one moveable window, has quick sorting functions, and allows you to remember what's in your bank, and alt inventories wherever you are. Super, super helpful.

DETAILS! - A more comprehensive version of Recount, recapping everything you would like to know about the math of your fight.

QUESTIE - This has 4 main functions. One is replacing your quest log with a better more custom one, 2 is adding quest icons to your map and minimap, 3 is showing you quests that you could pick up and what level they are from anywhere just by hovering an icon. 4, is making you not uninstall the game because I can't find this fucking quest item for an hour.

THE AUCTIONEER SUITE - all of these are on twitch as "auctioneer" but it includes all of the following.

AUCTIONEER - Allows you to keep track of tons of information through auction house scans. Stores data from the auction house so you have a sense of what's going on in your realm's economy.

SEARCH UI - this uses your stored up data to search the AH for things you want.

BEANCOUNTER - a log of your financial gains and losses.

ENCHANTRIX - everything that you can possibly identify to make the most of disenchanting.

INFORMANT - Adds a window below your tooltips when you hover that let's you know vendor price, market price, and other information. It also recommends you to Vendor/DE/ or AUCTION an item in your bag.

AUTOMAGIC - Will allow you to automatically sell gray items, and a list of items you can update as you see fit whenever you visit a vendor.

IcyHot's Minimalist Guide

Some of you out there are trying to preserve every ounce of the original WoW experience possible, and that is super cool and I have a ton of respect for you for taking this approach. If this is you, then consider that these addons will be expected by virtually any raid leader, unless you have found a guild of no addon purists like yourself!

DEADLY BOSS MODS

This is a must for raids. No setup needed. It will tell you when your being a dumb-ass, and if you are a dumb-ass all the time (me) it will tell you generally what to do in the fight. This is because dumb-asses didn't read about the boss first.

THREAT PLATES CLASSIC  or CLASSIC THREATMETER

These specific addons may not be exactly what your Raid Leader expects, however, they will expect you to have a reasonable way to identify threat on a target, before said target runs over to two shot ya you squishy bastard.

DETAILS! or RECOUNT

Most leaders again won't tell you that you have to, or tell you which one of these to use. They will however expect you to know that you are optimal and competitive with your damage output, and will hold you accountable to the data that shows up in their own addon.

DECURSIVE - IGNORED FOR ROGUES, WARRIORS, WARLOCKS, and HUNTERS

This addon is probably more than what a minimalist wants. I'm only mentioning it here because you should be able to quickly identify, adjust, and remove curses, magic, poision, diseases, etc. from your friends with ease. If you can't, you may be told to get this until you prove that you can.

This is what your minimal approach could look like!

Classic Specific Addons

If you are just coming back to WoW after a hiatus, this is a good place to start. These addons provide some needed changing to how the game functions so that you can make your most informed decisions possible when adventuring in Azeroth.

CLASSIC CASTBARS -This one is pretty straightforward. It gives you a castbar on the target frame, and below the name plates of your target. It's very hard to interrupt on time without this. It's very very combat effective with a small caveat - it's not always accurate.

CLASSIC LFG - This one is pretty crappy so far, but it depends on more people downloading and use it to become effective. But whatever, go ahead and keep spamming /4. This mainly functions was a way to easily connect you to those running groups. You still need a warlock with a soul stone, or to walk your happy ass to the dungeon's entrance.

FASTER LOOTING - this addon removes the awkard autoloot delay. I use this and have enjoyed it, although for it to function it will tell you every time you loot a unique item that you can't do that, even though it's already in your bag because it's command spamming.

IcyHotPatch's Complete Guide

If you have arrived at this page, you are serious about taking total control over your WoW interface. At this point, you and I both can admit we are nuts, and that we are willing to spend a few hours setting up our game in such detail, because we are that addicted to the game in the first place. This ought to be fun.

I will separate my addons into a few categories below for convenience sake, but before we get there I want to point out a couple of things that might make life easier from the jump. Many of these addons have varied font options as well as bar style. For example ZPerl and Quartz both use a color filling bar. You can make these styled differently, or the same, but there are like 30 to choose from. I, for time saving and personal preference sake found the style of bar I liked, and went with it on every relevant addon.

The same principle applies for font. I tried to use the same font in all my addons across the board. It can get very busy if you have many different fonts in each addon you use. This would be the first thing I keep in mind before setting out to become an interface customization king.

The first list is CLASSIC SPECIFIC ADDONS. I'm listing these first because many other addons will be dependent on you have these, and having them UP TO DATE. This is critical. Use Twitch app. Only one addon I have is not available there, and it will keep the rest up to date as the dev's make changes.

CLASSIC SPECIFIC ADDONS:

CLASSIC CASTBARS -This one is pretty straightforward. It gives you a castbar on the target frame, and below the name plates of your target. It's very hard to interrupt on time without this. It's very very combat valuable with a small caveat - it's not always accurate.

CLASSIC LFG - This one is pretty crappy so far, but it depends on more people downloading and use it to become effective. But whatever, go ahead and keep spamming /4.

COMBAT IMPROVEMENT:

HEALBOT - HEALERS ONLY. This addon gives you a unitframe alternative that's all about healing. The frames themselves have the ability to "one click heal" everyone in your raid party. You set up which heal you want with left click, then alt left click, then shift left click etc. Once you get the hang of it, this makes for massively more efficient healing.

OMNI CC - Adds cooldown texts to items, skills, and consumables on your action bars.

MIK's SCROLLING BATTLE TEXT (this is not available through twitch find it here) - This is not completely ported to classic yet, but the dev is working on it. You get a more detailed, and movable, and customizable scrolling battle text that cleans up your damage and heal text.

QUARTZ - Castbar modifier that makes your large castbar much more modifiable and specific. It will help you chain casts faster together, which results in more DPS.

THREAT PLATES CLASSIC - This is a modification of the old TidyPlates. This is currently the best known way to I.D. Threat on a target. The nameplates change color based on threat so you know when to keep calm and auto attack.

WEAPON SWING TIMER - this one takes a bit of understanding but it helps you identify when you can move to avoid an auto from a mob, or when you can move and not lose an auto with your ranged weapons. Valuable on every class.

THE INTERFACE:

BAGNON - Probably the most important. Combines all your bags into one moveable window, has quick sorting functions, and allows you to remember what's in your bank, and alt inventories wherever you are. Super, super helpful.

BARTENDER 4 - This allows you to adjust the size, position, and placement of all of your action and menu bars. You will notice in my screen shots that some things are even eliminated. This one takes a moderate amount of setup. Here are a few quick setup tips:

  • Make every bar the same size settings and the just move them around with bar snapping. It makes it very quick and efficient.
  • Disable the Blizzard Art Bar, and the Bag Bar. You can open your bags with a hotkey, or with the bag button on Titan Panel.
  • Use SOME padding. This will help when moving things around on your bars, but also keep your action bars locked.
BiS TRACKER - Under development but will have a cool function when it's all done. It shows BiS items for every phase for every class.

CLASSIC THREATMETER - This is currently in but may come out. It's ok if you have a single target and have been on it for a bit like a boss. For this reason, I currently use it, but for all over the place fights it has almost not value.

DETAILS! - A more comprehensive version of Recount, recapping everything you would like to know about the math of your fight.

GATHERMATE 2 - This gives you some cool icons about anything that can be gathered on your map and minimap. Very useful for just about every class, and any profession including fishing.

PAWN - Allows you to created weighted values of how important certain stats are to your class and spec so that you can compare items. Also will highlight a new item in green and show you an Upgrade % when it is better than your current item based on the values you told it. (Requires a bit of math, and a general understanding of basic theory crafting)

PRAT 3.0 - This gives you TOTAL control over your chat window.

SEXYMAP - Total minimap replacement and customization. There are lots of cool skins, scaling and sizing and moving functions. As you can see from my screenshots I go with a very slim approach, but this one with a little bit of time and make something you love according to preference.

SILVERDRAGON - This gives you a pop up box for Rare spawns and allows you to quickly target them. Never miss a rare again, instead get ganked by the alliance when you have burned the rare down to 5% hp.

TITANPANEL CLASSIC - These are the two bars across the bottom of my screen. I've set them up to deliver me a ton of visual information very quickly. I also turned off all my minimap buttons, and
have placed all my addon quick menu's on my titan bar. Here are some noteworthy extra plugins:
  • TitanPanel Classic Guild - gives you info about the guild you are in at a glance like # of players online(SHOUTOUT to CHOOFERS UNITED)
  • TitanPanel Classic Mail - gives you a mail tracker that you can hover to discover your auction mail, like what sold or what expired
  • TitanSkills - probably my favorite, gives you a skill bar you can hover on titan that shows you your current skill level for every trainable skill.
WiM - Wow instant messenger. Turns your whispers into chat boxes.

QUALITY OF LIFE:

ALL THE THINGS - It tells you all the things, but for classic.

ATLAS & ATLAS LOOT - Gives you dungeon maps and loot lists for bosses.

BADBOY - Spam filter.

FASTER LOOTING - removes the awkard autoloot delay.

I will work to keep this updated and make changes as needed!
